Day 44- Romantic Road- Rothenburg and Wurzburg

Day 44- 28 September 2008 Today we returned to Rothenburg and checked out the church which supposedly holds a drop of christs blood in a crystal. The crystal is mounted on a sculpture and wood carving and you can hardly see the crystal let alone the blood. We also walked around the city wall and saw the town hall with two secret windows that open up on the hour and show a mannequin of the mayor from years ago. The story goes that the city was invaded by the catholics and the general said that if the mayor could drink 3.25 lites of wine in a short period of time then he would give back the city and leave. The Mayor drank the wine within the time and the city was saved. The mayor is therefore imortilized in the window. Today we also checked out the famous christmas shop which houses the largest collection of christmas decorations and has a small village and large christmas trees inside the shop which is multilevel. It was very impressive. We also went to the criminal museum which houses all sorts of torture implementation and various other oddities. We then headed to wurzburg and checked out the Bishops residence which is quite impressive. It also boasts the largest single fresco in the world. Some of the rooms were magnificant and most have been recreated as the previous rooms had been destroyed in the war. The Romantic Road is a very picturesque trip (although some parts you are on a freeway). We also checked out nearly all of the churches in wurzburg.
