Day 47- Munich

Day 47- 1 October 2008 Today i headed to the Munich Residence which is a palace in the middle of Munich. It has approx 130 rooms of which the majority are open to visitors and the remaining ones are being renovated. I went on an audio guide tour for some hours and the palace is a maze of so many different and ornate and beautifully decorated rooms. There is also a treasury attached which houses various relics and other items including a gold cross relic which supposedly housed splinters from christs cross (which are no longer contained in the relic). After this i went on a 20 minute tram ride to Shloss Nyphemburg which is another Munich palace but only a small part can be visited. The palace has approx 80 hectares of grounds which you can tour around and 4 small palaces which you can also visit. I checked out the hunting lodge and the bath house which are the size of a large house but mostly decorated in the fashion of the palace (very ornate and lots of gold, silver and stucco artwork and frescoes). There is also a museum with all of Ludwigs and other reinging monarchs coaches and other items. Some of them were very large and very gold !! After being completely palaced out, i decided to head to my second home, Oktoberfest. Prost !! Well i found this place which was charging 3 euro to get in and it looked like a freak show place so of course i had to try it so i paid my 3 euro and was found with a place with about 100 spectators and a round turn table i the middle of the tent. What then proceeded was groups (i.e kids, then teenagers, then adults female then male adults to go in grouns on this turn table and it would spin to musioc and it was a competition on who would last the longest... After viewing this extrondary but strange event i thought what am i to do but to give it a try so i did. And when they gave the call for Herrens (males) i jumped in the middle with about 100 others. As the turn table span quicker and quicker i tried to hang on for deer life and after about 70 or so had fallen and spun out of control to the sides of the turn table i found my selkf still hanging on by a thread. And then it happened i was through clear of the turn table and into the edge of the circle. My ride was fast furious but now over... I went and checked out a few beer tents and found myself in the HB tent and came across a group of people singing "Aussie Aussie Aussie". Yes they were from the mother land and i made some quick friends and drinking buddies until the very end of the night when the lights were turned off and the security guards started blowing there whistles for us to get out of the tent and go home. Ahh Oktoberfest gotta love it...
