Day 50- 4 October 2008
Our plane had to wait 30 minutes on the tarmac for a empty gate and then we were offloaded and i was met by a topdeck tour rep who guided me through the airport which was chaos. I finally arrived at my hotel at 4am. Today was spent sleeping, in the roof top pool and a visit down the street to the ATM and to the shell servo to get some drinks. One thing to notice about Cairo downtown was this is no longer a western city. There were heards of animals grazing on the side of the bitumen and on the footpath, cars parked everywhere and a constant beeping of crazy egyptian drivers trying to avoid each other on the roads as they drove "Egyptian style" all around the road with a complete disregard of the lane markings, traffic lights, signs and pedestrians.
After waking up i peered out of the window and noticed that there were strange things in cairo, including the keeping of donkeys on roof tops of apartment buildings...
Also i had a view of 2 of the pyramids (the two big ones) out of my room window which was pretty special and the roof top pool and terrace had good views of cairo and the nile river.
At 5.30, i headed off with the previous weeks topdeck tour and went to see the Cairo Sound and Light Show at the Giza Pyramids. Despite poor story telling, this was a magnificant show. The pyramids and the Sphinz light up in different colours at different stages of the show. There were also lazers used. This was a great introduction to one ofthe seven anciet wonders of the world. Just Amazing.
After the show, we went to a restaurant on the edge of the nile river and enjoyed a very nice meal before we headed back to the hotel.
