Day 53- 7 October 2008
Upon arriving in Luxor at 12pm, we checked into our hotel and headed to the Temple of Karnak which is huge and amazing. It is a temple that was built by various pharios and constantly added upon when each new king took the throne. There is a large area withover 132 40 metre high stone colums with pictures and hyrogliphics and all sorts of amazing things. There are two large columns and the temple was divided up into sections. First there is the outer reception area, then a massive hall with the large columns (and from this point only the king and the high priest could enter). This was followed by a few more rooms and then the sanctuary which housed the statute of the god of Amon which each year was taken out and sent down the nile to luxor).
We then headed to the Temple of Luxor which has a sphinx street (a street lined with small stone sphinx) and also a temple (not as big as Karnak) with some very large statutes and lots of great hyrogliphics.
From there we visted a gold shop. and then had lunch at an egyptian restaurant.
Later that night we headed back to Karnak and saw the sound and light show. The show started at the start of the karnak temple and you walked sections of it whilst there was an informative and very good story being played and certain parts being light up. The show ended at a stadium seating section after another 40 minute show which area overlooked the entire site.
