Day 65- Paris- Versailles

Day 65- 19 October 2008 Today i went for a day trip to Versailles to see the palace. The who estate is massive and encompasses many parts. Of course, i visted all parts. First i toured around King Louis' and the queens state apartments including teh hall of mirrors and kings chambers, then the chapel and 17th century galleries, Dauphins apartments, Mesdames Apartments. I then got on a small train and went through the gardens to Marie Antoinettes estate which includes the Grand Triano, Petit Trianon and gardens including a small theatre (which is very impressive), belvedered, temple of love, a grotto, several lakes and a hamlet, little village with a few very nice little cottages around a lake. I then jumped back on the train and got off at the grand canal for a lunch of baguettes and yummy crepes. Then at 3.30, there is Les Grands Eaux Musicales de Versailles (musical fountains). There is about 20 separate gardens in a massive area and about 99 fountains. For two hours, all the fountains go and they play classical music which can be heard in each garden and the music changes depending on which garden you are in. It was a beautiful sunny day and quite nice to walk around the gardens, watching the fountains and listening to the lovely music. The favourite fountain would have to be the Enceladus Grove which has a gold statute of Enceladus (the chief of Titans whcih are giants with a hundred arms) who was punished for his pride by the gods from Mount Olympus and set in stone. The gardens were spectacular. The Palace itself was quite impressive although maybe not as good as some of the other impressive palaces i have seen over the last 65 days. But still a memorable visit.
