Day 17- Barcelona

Day 17- 1 September 2008 Today i headed to the the Placa de Catlunya and jumped back on the tourist bus. I headed for the Poble Espanyol which is a Spanish village which is like a hollywood movie set that has facades of houses, churches etc and features examples of housing, buildings etc from all parts of spain. It was originally built for the world fair when it was on in Barcelona. After a guided audio tour of this interesting but not action packed exciting venue i jumped back on the bus and we went pass the towers built for the world trade fair which are on a large avenue leading up to the National Muse dárt de catalunya, the magic fountain. Unfortunately the fountain does not operate on mondays and the art gallery is not also open on Mondays so i had to view both from the outside. Without going inside i thought the buildings were magnificent nonetheless. We then headed past the Olympic stadium and up to the Parc de montjuric where i jumped off the bus and got the cable car to the top of Parc de Montjuric where there is an old castle called the castle de Montjuic. Apart from a large number of canons around the castle the inside is relatively bear. There are great views from the castle right around. After exploring the area i headed back on the cable car, jumped back on the bus and headed for the old port area where i explored a little and walked along the beach ending up at a nice little location. I then had a swim (the weather is very hot here) The water was actually a bit cold compared to Valencia and although the people watching is just as good as Valencia the beach sand is not as good and the first 5 metres of the water is actually coral and rock rather than sand which is not as pleasant as Valencias beach. I then got back on the bus and headed down the rest of the Olympic port and beach area before making my way back to La Ramblas and back to the hostel.
