Day 25- 9 September 2008
Today we headed to Uffizi Gallery and we waited for 1.25 hours to get in as they only let 40 people in every 20 minutes which is very annoying...
We finally got in and took the tour around seeing most of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and their artworks. It was quite a good gallery but we thought it was not as good as the Vatican museums.
After a few hours spent gazing at the amazing works, we went to Ponte Vecchio and had a look at all the jewellery shops. From there we had a look at Piazza Pitti and then off to Michaelangelos piazza which is about 1000 steps to the top of the hill. There we are provided with a spectacular view of Florence and yet the 2nd copy of David in brass on a huge dias. After a nice walk down some windy garden path we arrived back to the river and we headed across to the Duomo to go inside the dome. Well another 20 minute wait and we headed up the 463 steps to the dome with a fantastic view of inside the dome which is painted with heaven and hell frescos. It is hard to believe how they built the dome let alone painted on the dome which is about 100 metres off the bottom of the church floor. After this some more steps to the top of the outside of the dome which gave breathtaking views of Florence (or was the breath being taken away by the steps and climbing to the top).I think a little from both. Then a nice relaxing trip down and then we headed to an internet cafe to update the blog and to transfer my photos to a memory card. Very hard stuff trying to translate with an indian internet cafe guy who only speaks pigeon Italian (and no english). Arggg Florence...
Tomorrow we are off to Venice which i am sure is going to be just as amazing as every other place we have been so far.
ciao.
