Day 37- Zurich

Day 37- 21 September 2008 Today we got up and went to the Grossmunster church which we snuck in as a service was about to start and saw the magnificent stain glass windows. From there we went across the river and found the Fraumunster which was closed due to a service. We then walked along the river and went to the Swiss National Museum. The museum houses all sorts of things including a display of prehistory and a massive wooly mammoth. It then traces the history to present day. The museum houses an adhoc and unusal set of items. In particular it has various antiquities from old castles and swiss houses, recreations of woodwork and wall pannellng from houses, a giant model of a battle with little painted figures, a Episode 1 star wars dvd, a star wars leggo figure, coins, clothing, guns, swords and armour, massive ornate ovens, religous artifacts and some egyptian artifacts and a mummy or two. After an extensive visit at the museum we headed back to the Fraumunster and checked out the inside and the extensive stain glass windows (which were not the tradition scenes and stained glass but rather more modern than expected. From here we went to the train station and then off to Zurich airport. Ness and I had about 8 swiss francs left each so we had a big spend up at the supermarket at the airport and bought quite a bit of swiss chocolate for our travels to germany. Our plane was due to leave at 5.40pm and about a month ago i got an email saying the time had changed to 5.10pm. When we got to the airport (which is huge and you need to get a train to the gates) we were told it was leaving at 5.10pm. When the gate number was announced (around 4.50pm), we found out it was listed to depart at 6pm. After enquiring with the airport staff they said that the airline (air berlin) did not have good relations with zurich airport and they would be trying to get off earlier around 5.20pm. Well we finally got on board at 5.45 and then had to wait in line next to the runway until about 6.25pm... We finally got to Berlin, Germany around 8pm and after a short taxi ride found our hotel.
