Day 59- Cairo
Day 59- 13 October 2008
Today i slept in and then headed to the Egyptian Museum to spend a lot more time there. I also went into the Mummies room which held many mummies taken from tombs around egypt and from the Valley of the Kings near Aswan. There were two mummies rooms and an animal mummies room. Interestingly, most mummies were taken from their original tombs and put into mass tombs hidden near the Valley of the Kings by preists to be protected from the tomb raiders. There are also many mummies in the general museum (which bear no name) as have been lost in time. After a very extensive visit (looking at every object the museum has) i headed back to the hotel and then off to teh Airport for my 2am flight to Munich.
Every ride in a taxi here is an adventure. You are not sure if: 1. You will survive as the cars swerve in and out and near misses are every second, 2 whether you will ended up at your destination because either the taxi driver is dodgy and will take you to the middle of teh desert and extort you or due to the minimal english they speak they may take you to a place you do not want to be. or 3 they extort you at the end of the trip for money. Either way, luckily i arrived in tact each time but i reckon going in a taxi is one of the extreme sports you can do.
