Day 60- 14 October 2008
Today I flew into Muncih around 7.30 (after our flight was delayed due to the stupid systems in place at Cairo (such as going through 4 security screens and 2 passport controls)). I finally jumped on the train and about 8.45 was at my hostel. Not being able to checkin until 2pm, i decided to hit the streets of munich and have a look around. I ended up getting my haircut which was not too bad. The guy spoke a few words of english but the fear of whether i would end up with no hair was similar to that felt in the taxis in cairo. Luckily i still have some hair left on my head and hopefully the cut is not too shabby.
From here i continued my window shopping and general walk around town and ended up at the Hofrabrau House for a quite ale and roast pork. The place was not very packed, but traditional bavarian music started playing around 12 which provided a nice beer hall atmosphere. This place was like nothing compared to teh same time a few weeks ago when it was in the middle of oktoberfest.
From here i headed back to the hostel to check in and have a nice seista. I then jumped on a train and headed out to the olympic village and viewed the apartment buildings which were the centre of the olympic tradegy involving the israelis. I then checked out the BMW world again (which showcases the convertables from a couple of james bond movies which are the cars driven by Pierce Brosnan in the movies) and then joined my BMW Plant Tour. The tour took us through the BMW Munich plant which produces the 3 series and most of the engines used for BMW. It was a very interesting tour and most of the plant is fully automated which robots doing the majority of the work and working very closely together with millimetres gap between their movements with other robots. Some parts where just like in star wars with anakin skywalker moving in between the conveyor belts fighting the robots.
From there i headed back to the hostel for a much needed rest.
